Homemade Pizza Sauce

This tuscan tomato pizza sauce will transport you to an Italian kitchen immediately! It's perfect for homemade pizza night!

10 roma tomatoes, cracked
1-2 pints cherry tomatoes, halved
1 small onion, diced
¼ cup water
1 tsp kosher salt
1 bunch of basil (rough chopped)
¼ cup oregano leaves
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1 tbsp good EVOO
Kosher salt to taste
  • Add tomatoes, onion, water, salt, basil, oregano and red pepper flakes to a dutch oven/pot or large skillet. Cover and bring to a boil.
  • Uncover and simmer, stirring occasionally until tomatoes break down fully and liquify. Be patient.
  • Blend sauce with an immersion blender (should be consistency of pasta sauce at this point).
  • Continue to reduce at a simmer until sauce thickens to a consistency between pasta sauce and tomato paste.
  • Add olive oil and salt to taste
  • Add more herbs or red pepper flakes if desired. Let cool and store overnight to concentrate flavors further.
